Although three main religions survived to be known in the modern world, the third one, Buddhism, was introduced later, around the year 200. Religion was important back then, since there was not much technology.
Taoism was a religion based on a book, called Tao Te Chang, written by a teacher named Lao Tzu. He believed that the balance between the two forces, yin and yang, was the key to a peaceful world. The two forces were total opposites, but neither can survive without the other. Fighting and arguments are probably the results of imbalance.
Confucianism was another religion that came from a scholar named Confucius (Kong Fuzi). It was a religion about a rule of behavior to make the world peaceful. They had to obey and be loyal to people in a higher rank, for example, a son would owe loyalty to his father. The people also had to take care of people in a lower rank, like a father had to take care of his family.
The Chinese people sometimes relied heavily on religion for survival. If they believed and followed the rules of religion, they will be safe from bad luck.
